Pittsburgh Radio Host Explains Why 2026 Pirates Are ‘Physically Imposing’

· Yahoo Sports

The Pittsburgh Pirates look different this season.

For the first time in years, they have a legitimate lineup. They have big, strong, powerful guys who can run fast, throw hard and hit the ball far.

In other words, they have physical freaks.

That’s how 93.7 The Fan put it this week while describing the 2026 Pirates, who look vastly different than recent Pittsburgh teams that relied on small ball and manufacturing runs.

“You’re looking at having three of the most physically gifted players in baseball on one team: Paul Skenes, Konnor Griffin and Oneil Cruz. And if each of them play to their potential, you’re a playoff team,” said the host. “This is a physically imposing baseball team…Now you’ve got freaks. This team scares you…”

Skenes is arguably the best pitcher in baseball and coming off a unanimous NL Cy Young award. Griffin is MLB’s No. 1 prospect and drawing comparisons to Mike Trout and Willie Mays. Cruz is a monster with All-Star and perhaps MVP ability if he can put it all together.

If they play up to their potential, they could be three of the best players in baseball this year. And with all the talent around them now, Pittsburgh would probably be good enough to make the postseason for the first time since 2015.
