Former Vikings CB finds new home and could be a value

The Minnesota Vikings never got much out of cornerback Nahshon Wright during his tenure with the team. He appeared in one game in 2024 following a player swap with 2022 second-round pick Andrew Booth.

So it wasn't much of a surprise when the Vikings released Wright last April. The Chicago Bears immediately snatched him up, and he made an immediate impact with the team.

Wright, who stands 6'4", intercepted six passes in 2025, returning one for a touchdown against J.J. McCarthy in Week 1. He picked off McCarthy in the end zone once again in Week 11. For his efforts, Wright was selected to the Pro Bowl.

But he won't be playing for the Bears again this season. Wright signed a one-year, $5.5 million deal with the New York Jets last week, a move that Ryan Smith of PFF said is one of the best under-the-radar moves of free agency.

A cornerback who stands 6-foot-4 and plays predominantly on the outside, Wright will have another opportunity to showcase his skills in Aaron Glenn’s system in New York. The Jets were the first team in NFL history to go an entire season without at least one interception, so this is a good, low-risk move for a defense looking to create more turnovers in 2026.

Wright could inject some playmaking ability into a secondary that was historically inept at forcing turnovers in 2025. If he does, Wright could be looking at an even better payday next year.

One has to wonder whether the Vikings simply deemed Wright not a defensive fit or completely whiffed on their assessment of him. He directly impacted both games against Minnesota in 2025 and helped the Bears win the NFC North.

Now, the Jets will see if he can keep producing in the AFC East. If he can, New York may begin showing some signs of turning things around under Glenn.
