The Southeastern Conference may have snubbed Aaliyah Chavez. ESPN didn't.
Can't say the network hates the Sooners for a day, anyway.

Oklahoma's superstar freshman, who inexplicably didn't earn SEC Freshman of the Year honors when the league awards were announced earlier this week, instead did one better through the Worldwide Leader. ESPN named Chavez its national Freshman of the Year on Wednesday.
The snub from the SEC was so wild that Michael Voepel, one of the writers of ESPN's choices, wrote about it right off the bat.
"Chavez won the league's freshman of the week award an SEC record-tying eight times, was the league's leading scorer among freshmen and was the only freshman to receive All-SEC honors (second team)," Voepel wrote. "But somehow, she wasn't named SEC Freshman of the Year; that went to Vanderbilt's Aubrey Galvan."

Chavez's first season of college basketball lived up to the hype it carried as she entered as the top recruit in the nation. She led Oklahoma in scoring with 18.4 points per game and added 3.8 rebounds and 4.1 assists. Her breakout came when the Sooners upset No. 1 South Carolina in overtime on January 23. Chavez scored 15 of her 26 points in overtime with four 3-pointers in those five minutes alone.
The Sooners are waiting now on the release of the NCAA Tournament bracket. ESPN's Charlie Creme projects Oklahoma as No. 4 seed. The Selection Show is set to air Sunday at 7 p.m.
