With the start of the new league year falling on March 11 at 4 p.m. ET, the expectation is Kyler Murray will finally be cut loose.

That was the report from ESPN's Adam Schefter last week, and there has been nothing to suggest anything has changed since then.

One team widely connected to Murray is the Minnesota Vikings, who are in the market for a veteran quarterback to, at the very least, push J.J. McCarthy.

While it seems like a perfect fit, it appears Murray is not just going to go running into the arms of the Vikings, as NFL Network's Tom Pelissero reports Murray will take his time before making a decision and plans to meet with multiple teams.

"For Kyler Murray though, don't expect that it's quite like Tua where, at 4:01 he's released and, at 4:05 he's got a new team," Pelissero stated. "Kyler Murray has not had a chance to interface with very many teams since he was back in the pre-draft process in 2019. He has never been a free agent."

"And given the fact that Kyler is going to take a one-year minimum contract, it makes sense for him to, in essence, preview the 2027 free agent process," Pelissero added. "So I would anticipate, and if I'm his agent, I'm probably saying, all right, let's hear multiple pitches."

We're not sure really how many options Murray has, unless he's willing to take a backup role.

Teams like the New York Jets and Miami Dolphins have already filled their starting vacancies with Geno Smith and Malik Willis, respectively.

The Pittsburgh Steelers won't have a need for a veteran unless Aaron Rodgers retires or plays elsewhere.

It's possible Murray could choose to take a backup role with teams like the Los Angeles Rams or Green Bay Packers to reset for a year, but there hasn't been an indication that will be his approach.

The risk for the Vikings in Murray taking his time is that they could miss out on other opportunities with veteran quarterbacks in the meantime, which means Minnesota could be left out in the cold if Murray decides to sign elsewhere.

We tend to believe Murray will end up with the Vikings because the pairing just makes too much sense, but never say never in the NFL.
