Bayern Munich president Herbert Hainer bemoans the Bundesliga’s low TV revenue compared to the Premier League
· Yahoo Sports
Bayern Munich has been battling a financial disparity between it and clubs in the Premier League for a while and has made it no secret that it feels real consternation at the financial lengths other clubs are able to go to that they simply are not. The Bundesliga behemoth’s commercial and match day income still ranks very highly among clubs in Europe, though, which begs the question of where this financial disparity is coming from.

The answer is the Bundesliga’s TV revenue, unfortunately. Bayern’s president Herbert Hainer, as captured by @iMiaSanMia, explained to German news site Tz what the situation is like.
“The bottom team in England gets more money than the top team in our league,” he said. “Our clubs need to expand their reach to America, Africa, and Asia for things to improve.”

In recent times, Bayern and their rivals Borussia Dortmund have been the clear frontrunners in marketing themselves in these countries and continents. But marketing efforts in other countries, such as going on pre-season tours, are expensive and usually seen as an unnecessary use of money in a sport that is increasingly leaving clubs with less money behind. It is not surprising that only the richest clubs in the country choose to go on pre-season tours in other countries.
Nor is that the only reason such outreaches are not succeeding. Werder Bremen, for example, rightly recently cancelled plans to go to America in the summer of 2026 due to political reasons and crackdowns on immigration.
The Bundesliga reach’s expansion into other areas of the world will have to wait, again.
