Paramedics were called to the Anaheim theme park after staff reported an odour and started experiencing dizziness and shortness of breath, the Los Angeles Times reported.

The employees fell ill in a backstage area near Tomorrowland’s Star Tours, Anaheim Fire and Rescue spokesperson Matt Sutter told the outlet.

According to Walt Disney World news site WDWNT , cast members were seen outside of The Star Trader, blocking guests from entering the shop, while a “cavalcade” scheduled for 1:30 p.m. was cancelled.

Disney officials said several cast members were treated on-site by paramedics and released, while five were taken to a local hospital.

The incident did not affect park guests, Sutter said.

Disney officials said building materials used by a contractor caused the reaction.

Out of an abundance of caution, officials said adjacent buildings were closed at the theme park and are expected to reopen later in the day.
