Twin Tiers natives Eva Koratsis and Atalyia Rijo turned in impressive performances for their respective college softball teams, on Saturday. In Faifax, Virginia Horseheads’ Koratsis kicked-off Fordham’s 9-2 win over George Mason with a 3-run home run. The former Blue Raiders’ standout followed her early blast with a 4th RBI on a 6th inning walk.
The Rams’ win split a doubleheader with the Patriots, who took the 1st game with the help of another local name. Corning grad Elyssa DeRosa scored as a pinch runner for George Mason, as part of a 4-0 victory to open the day’s series.
Fordham (6-10) will wrap up the weekend series with the Patriots (7-10), on Sunday at noon.
In the Southeastern Conference, Corning grad Atalyia Rijo and Arkansas continued a dominant season. Rijo cracked an RBI-single as part of the Razorbacks’ 7-6 win over Georgia. The former Hawks standout not only went (1-3) with a run, RBI, and walk, but delivered a clutch defensive play in the 6th. As seen on Arkansas’ linked “X” page, Rijo delivered the 1st out of a scoreless inning, ranging from short stop, through the gap to take away a Bulldogs’ base hit.
The Razorbacks (20-2) welcome Georgia (19-6) back to Bogle Park for the series finale, Sunday at 1 p.m.
